Chaitra Navratri Ashtami 2016: Mahashtami also known as Durgashtami, is on 8th day of Navratri Puja. Maha Ashtami is one of the most important days of Durga Puja. Durga Puja on Maha Ashtami begins with Mahasnan and Shodashopachar Puja which is very much similar to Maha Saptami Puja except Prana Pratishtha which is done only once on Maha Saptami.

Sandhi Puja prevails for two Ghatis which approximately lasts for 48 minutes. Sandhi Puja Muhurta might fall at any time during the day and Sandhi Puja is done during that time only.

Chaitra Navratara 2016 8th Day – Mahagauri Puja on Asthami
Mahagauri is the eighth manifestation of Goddess Durga and amongst the Navadurgas. Mahagauri is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri. According to Hindu mythology, the Goddess Shailputri at the age of sixteen was extremely beautiful and was blessed with fair complexion. Due to her extreme fair complexion, she was known as Goddess Mahagauri. Goddess Mahagauri is compared with the conch, the moon and the white flower of Kunda. She adorns white clothes only and due to that. She is also known as Shwetambardhara.
